The sea eel, an indicator of the highest water quality, thrives here splendidly and is the highlight of the varied local fish cuisine. Bolsena itself is dominated by the 13th century Monaldeschi Castle and has a rich Etruscan, Roman and Christian history. The towns of Montefiascone (15 km), Orvieto and Viterbo (25 km each) are in the immediate vicinity. The sea (Montalto Marina 50 km) and Rome (100 km) are easy to reach.
